Deanna Barton, ATR-BC
Founder and Board Certified Art Therapist

I am a Board Certified Art Therapist, educator, and artist. Provide holistic experiences that promote mental and emotional well-being.

Offerings encourage personal growth, deepen self-awareness, and enhance creativity while also serving as a supportive space for emotional release. I hold space for folks to address mental health concerns, complex trauma, disenfranchised grief, oppression, marginalization, and collective trauma.

Sometimes we just don't have the words to express how we feel. That's okay. We can let the art do the talking.

Many of my clients come to seek support for chronic stress and anxiety, complex trauma, depression and grief, perfectionism, stagnant creative energy, and many are healing generational wounds and a are seeking decolonized and anti-oppressive mental health care.

I believe all human beings are intrinsically creative.

Expressing this creativity can help us find balance and fulfillment in daily life.

I utilize a healing-centered, anti-oppressive approach incorporating different creative processes like art-making, creative writing, and movement. I prioritize sensory experiences and creative expression for healing, which differs from traditional methods that rely heavily on verbal communication. Instead, I believe in using nonverbal and experiential techniques to access deeper emotions and insights.

I completed my undergraduate studies at Spelman College and received a Master's of Arts degree in Art Therapy from The George Washington University. I am actively involved in the American Art Therapy Association and the Georgia Art Therapy Association. I am a council member of the Accreditation Council for Art Therapy Education and teach at Pennsylvania Western University’s art therapy program.

I've worked in schools, shelters, psychiatric facilities, court programs, community outreach, and private practice since 2009. I've cared for clients of all ages and diverse backgrounds and collaborated with community-based organizations to develop programming for marginalized and underserved communities.

And all this work has led me to this space - created for you.
