How does art therapy work?
Art-making provides an opportunity for self-expression and emotional release. The creative process gets you into a flow, activates your brain, and stimulate your senses.
The first few sessions will focus on what brought you to therapy. We will explore various aspects of your life, identify your strengths, and develop a game plan for the rest of our time together.
During sessions, I will guide you through art-making as we work on the topics of your choice. If you are not in the mood to talk in detail, that's okay too. The art can be your voice. At times, difficult feelings may come up. I will be there to help you make sense of them.
Your artwork will help us view your challenges from a new perspective. Our sessions will help you cultivate personal growth and emotional wellness. Together, we will develop solutions to help you grow, become more resilient, and live as your most authentic self.
Art therapy does not require you to be good at art. If you don't think you are artistic and that's okay! I will show you how to use various art materials and demonstrate art-making techniques. Art-making may include drawing, painting, collage, mind-mapping, visual journaling, sewing, photography, creative writing, or working with wood, clay and natural/found objects.
You can work with me individually, with your significant other or your family.
